Trim a video and change its speed with QuickCut
Trim a clip, adjust playback speed, and export an MP4 in your browser. Learn which files work and what to check when an export fails.
Updated
Open QuickCutBefore you start
QuickCut processes the video file on your device. No account or video upload is required. Use a current desktop browser with WebCodecs support and keep the tab open while exporting.
MP4, MOV, and WebM are containers: whether a particular file opens also depends on its video and audio codecs and your browser. Start with a short clip before processing a large recording.
Trim and export your first clip
- Open QuickCut and choose or drop a video file into the workspace.
- Adjust the start and end of the selected clip. Play the preview and check both cut points.
- Leave speed at 1× for normal playback, or choose a speed from 0.25× to 4×. Check the audio and preserve-pitch option after changing speed.
- Choose an output size and background. If you add a device frame, check that important content stays inside the visible screen.
- Open Export, choose the quality settings, and wait for processing to finish. Save the MP4 and play the downloaded file to check duration, image, and sound.
Join clips or prepare a framed demo
You can import several clips, arrange their order, and trim each one before exporting the sequence. Check the transitions in the preview. A device frame and background can turn a phone recording into a product demo; export a short sample to check framing before rendering the whole video.
When opening or exporting fails
If the browser reports that video processing is unsupported, use an updated browser that supports WebCodecs. If only one file fails, try a conventional H.264 MP4 to distinguish a codec issue from a browser issue.
For a large or high-resolution file, shorten the selected clip or lower the output resolution and close other memory-heavy tabs. Keep the device awake. Re-encoding can change image quality; inspect the downloaded result before sharing it.
Common questions
Is my video sent to a server?
QuickCut reads and processes your selected video locally in the browser. The website still needs to load its code and assets; local processing does not mean that a first visit works without an internet connection.
Does trimming always preserve the original quality?
No. Output depends on the selected processing, speed, composition, and export settings. Treat the exported file as a new result and check it before replacing or deleting your source.
